An only child, Rose begins her life close to the centre of the town of Kendal, moving out to a suburb when the family can afford a better home. She becomes interested in flowers and flower arranging and when she leaves school she starts work at the local florists. On a visit to her grandmother near the neighbouring town of Appleby she meets her ‘prince charming' in the form of the eligible bachelor, Andrew Forbes. She begins an intense courtship with the likeable gentleman farmer and they eventually succeed to the desirable farm in the pleasant Eden valley. Rose follows up her interest in flowers while her beau devotes time and energy to acting in the local Dramatic Society with some distraction and intrigue when he gets paired up with an attractive female. The reader will be kept interested with the fortunes of the story's two charming characters.
