This title combines five autobiographical 'road books' of Jack Kerouac published during a remarkable four-year period. 'On the Road' seeks to present the interpretation of the relationship between the writer Sal Paradise and his friend Dean Moriarty, and to process the cities, highways and wildernesses that explore characters. 'The Dharma Bums' intends to be an exploration of Buddhist spirituality and an account of the Bay Area poetry scene. 'The Subterraneans' recounts a love affair set amid the bars and bohemian haunts of San Francisco. 'Tristessa' is a novella describing a relationship with a prostitute in Mexico City. 'Lonesome Traveler' seeks to collect travel essays that evoke journeys in Mexico and Europe, and finish with an elegiac lament for the world of the American hobo.
