Flossy Banty Legs is a rich, multi-faceted kaleidoscope of memories that make up the framework of my life. My story describes the colourful events and even more colourful characters of my childhood in a South Yorkshire pit village. It starts by relating my happy, but desperate growing years spent in a small mining village, then moves with me to the rich countryside of Lincolnshire. The humour and nostalgia erupt from the pages of my story in a colourful, everchanging pattern of my early years. I was Flossy Banty Legs.   The memories span the time from the magical birth of my baby sister, when I was three, to my emergence from my chrysalis when I left the sewing factory in Thurcroft in search of better things, at the tender age of seventeen.    The characters in the story spring to life through vivid description and an underlying stream of yorkshire humour. Some of their lives and even their characters are bizarre, yet we have to admire them for their undeniable tenacity in the face of everything that life throws at them.   This is a true story, the characters are real, the incidents are described as I remember them. The pit village still exists, but the pit is closed , the men are miners no longer, and things will never be the same again.I hope this story will revive a few memories for the people who still live there, and that it will open the eyes of the people who never had the chance.
