In the 1980s, I was an angry teenage punk. During my senior year in high school I got into a lot of trouble. I liked to start fights with dudes who would talk to my ex-girlfriend, and I ended up getting arrested for it. I pretended to be a drug addict and an alcoholic so I could go to a rehab instead of prison.
When I arrived at the teenage rehab center, the first thing they did was force me to exchange my street armor for a pair of puke green pajamas and white cotton slippers. The boys had to turn in their back-pocket, long-handled hair combs, and the girls were not allowed to keep their industrial-sized cans of hair spray that somehow fit into their tiny purses. We were stripped of our identities so we could focus more clearly. I did not create the pajama party program, however I lived through it and learned the tools that would someday save my life and lead me to a much overdue apology to an ex-girlfriend.
This story is also about two truly amazing young guitarists who fell in love with beer and then cocaine. Because of their passion for life, their stars burned too bright. I will never know what I did to deserve their friendship; they were the best of the best.
A Pajama Party also comes with a mostly-original soundtrack (via web address) so you can hear and experience at no cost the music we worked so hard on. Witness the rise and fall of a rock band that never made it and never had a chance. Read the true story, learn what to look for and what to do if the time ever comes.
And most of all, learn the tools invented in the '80s so that you can host your own pajama party.
Read it once to entertain, then read it twice to know.
