Political Curtains is the first release in the SaveYourSanitySeries. Future releases will tend to concentrate on one subject in contrast with Political Curtains that covers a wide range of topics.
C.A. Collins shares her departure from her native New Zealand in 1960, an era when by and large only those with STEM (Science,Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills were granted permanent residents visas to the United States. Her mechanical engineer had been hired to manage a plastics plant in Honolulu. She goes on to explain the trying times for Hawai’i following statehood which stirred up painful memories for the Hawai’ian people of The Great M?hele of 1848 and Kuleana Act of 1850 and the “illegal” overthrow of their beloved Queen Lili’oukalani, a bond rising from her own Maori ancestry.
Hawai’i was once firmly in Republican Party hands and the changeover to a decidedly Democratic stronghold is a unique situation; is directly linked to the sugar industry — once the backbone of the economy of the islands. Who would have thought that the 1920 O’ahu Sugar strike would have a major impact on immigration policies passed in 1921 and 1924? It did! Collins explains who and what happened that lead to major immigration changes; that halted the flow of migrants, why it had to be done. A compelling motivation for writing “Political Curtains” prompted by the onslaught of misinformation and deception over US immigration policy. That’s acerbated by a deliberate effort to foster a culture of confusion by politicians with a woeful disrespect for the electorate. They were highly successful - many pushing the option out button for that reason, those days are over and not being well informed on immigration along with not knowing who the power brokers in your own county, is most unwise, both can have a major negative impact on your quality of life, quite frequently — without warning!
