Its the summer of 1856, and sixteen-year old Korina Fischers predictable farm life takes an unexpected turn when she witnesses the arrival of the US Camel Corp near her Texas Hill Country farm.Already discontent with the looming certainty of becoming a farmers wife, the camels arrival sets off a chain of events that change her life forever. When she and a friend are kidnapped, Korina not only learns the depth of her own strength, she also learns how to survive the dangerous Texas frontier.Reviews for other editionsFelt it started off a bit slow but the pace really did pick up. At first I wasnt sure if I would enjoy and like the book but once it picked up, the story became a true page turner, one I didnt like having to put down. The author did a great job with the overall story telling and kept you wondering what more could happen to Korina and Adela.Daughter of the Earth is a well told, well researched story set in the Hill Country of Texas. Its replete with suspense, historical reference (i.e., the Camel Corps) and good attention to detail: of places, cultures, and Texas life as it might have been in the mid 1800s. The author weaves a delightful tale thru the experiences of 16 year old Korina Fischer and her German emigrant family. Hopefully, there will be future installments in this captivating story! -CC-
