    Sinopse

Tony Richardson's 1968 The Charge of the Light Brigade, with its star cast, lavish sets and location shoots, is one of the most expensive British films ever made. Capturing the rebellious mood of the sixties and setting it against conflicting traditional values, this ruthless and biting satire of a key event in British history is one of the highlights of British cinema. Mark Connelly examines the film and its difficult production history, the role of its stars David Hemmings, Vanessa Redgrave and John Gielgud, and director Richardson's running feud with the press, all of which culminated in the film's subsequent fame. He explores too the way that The Charge of the Light Brigade, while meticulously reconstructed from authentic sources, is simultaneously representative of its era - in its visual style and contemporary themes of youth, sexual infidelity and class - ingeniously portraying an historical event while also revealing the horror of war to a world struggling to come to terms with American involvement in Vietnam.
