This work explains and discusses the influence of the international free trade system on the protection of intellectual property (patent law, copyright, and trademark law). The relationship of these systems was established in 1994 through the new TRIPs-agreement on "Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights." This agreement built on the 1947 General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which initially realized international free trade. With agreement from the World Trade Organization (WTO), TRIPs and GATT have entered into a new stage of development.
